  9. The BMWG met on Tuesday, July 30th in Atlanta during the IETF meeting.
  10.  
  11. The single topic of the discussions was to explore ways to more closely
  12. relate the design of tests for routers and bridges to the conditions
  13. found in the real world.
  14.  
  15. We explored the issues of bi-directional traffic, mixed protocols and
  16. random address and came to the conclusion that it would be difficult, at
  17. the least, to simulate a real-world network but that most of the above
  18. issues should be included in the test design.
  19.  
  20. It was concluded, in the absence of actual tests, that the choice of
  21. routing protocol probably did not make any performance difference to the
  22. routed protocol after the next-hop address had been learned and added to
  23. the routing cache.  Tests should be performed to see if this is true.
  24.  
  25. We agreed to hold a video conference in mid September to continue
  26. refining the actual procedures that should be used to do throughput
  27. tests.
